In 2005, a small group of us undertook a rigorous examination of the community-at-large. We discussed (1) specific challenges relating to at-risk youth behaviors and (2) the prevailing social norms that impact these behaviors.
We examined school data, local and regional youth risk studies, and educational research on: youth civic engagement, leadership development, and protective factors.
After completing our analysis, we decided to establish Community
Partnerships for Youth (CP4Y), and we formulated a mission statement,
core values and goals. We recognize that while youth behavioral and
cultural challenges are evident, based on regional risk assessments, the
Chagrin Valley area also boasts inherent assets, including:
Our desire is to build on these existing assets, initiate new partnerships and brainstorm activities that benefit area youth. We also hope to connect with other communities and replicate successful initiatives there.
Finally, we hope for the active volunteerism of our Cuyahoga and Geauga county community members as we work to build new bridges across many traditional school and community lines. Through these partnerships, we can provide new resources and innovative programming that will keep our young people on the right track.
We hope you will join our efforts. For more information on how to get involved, please contact one of us.
Sincerely yours,
Linda Alexander, Marjie Heines, Carol Nash, Polly Pirc, Joann Randall, Chris Steigerwald, Shelly Wangler, Dr. Ellen Luebbers Weaver, Mary Jo Weber
